After a few hours of research and some special thanks to some fans on Facebook, I’ve landed on a “worry doll”.

People say that “You tell your worries to it, and put it under your pillow at night. It’s supposed to take away your worries while you’re sleeping.”

Sounds like I might need one of these to sleep better after watching some horror movies!

So, Why a Worry Doll?

Worry dolls, originating from Guatemala, are small, handmade dolls traditionally crafted from wire, wool, and colorful textile scraps. According to local legend, these dolls are believed to possess the power to alleviate anxieties and fears. The practice involves telling one worry to each doll before going to sleep and placing them under the pillow. The dolls are said to take over the person’s worries, allowing for a peaceful night’s sleep, with the belief that the worries will be gone by morning.

These dolls can be particularly useful as a psychological tool, especially for children.

They provide a tangible way for individuals to express their concerns and symbolically hand them over to something else, which can be very soothing. This act can help reduce nighttime anxieties and improve sleep. Additionally, the process of sharing worries with the dolls can serve as a gentle introduction to the concepts of emotional expression and problem-solving, fostering emotional resilience from an early age.
