So, What is The Watchers?
Ishana Shyamalan, taking a bold step forward in her burgeoning career, is set to direct her first feature film, “The Watchers,” inheriting the directorial baton from her father, famed filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan.
Ishana, who began shaping her cinematic vision at the young age of 19, has developed her craft through significant roles as a writer, producer, and director on the Apple TV+ series “Servant,” created by her father. Further honing her skills, Ishana served as an assistant director on M. Night Shyamalan’s recent films, “Old” (2021) and “Knock At The Cabin” (2023).
Earlier last year, her upcoming project “The Watchers” was acquired by New Line Cinema, with Richard Brener, President and Chief Creative Officer, praising the script for its compelling grip from start to finish.
The Watchers Release Date
Originally scheduled for a June 7 release, Ishana recently shifted the premiere to coincide with Father’s Day weekend, setting a new date of June 14, 2024.
This strategic move places “The Watchers” at the start of the summer movie season, alongside the release of Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out 2.” Produced by Blinding Edge Productions, “The Watchers” is the first of two films from the studio for summer 2024, followed by M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller “Trap,” starring Josh Hartnett.
In line with a growing industry trend, “The Watchers” will debut exclusively in theaters before becoming available on streaming platforms. It is expected to stream on Max following its theatrical run and will also be accessible for purchase or rental on other platforms such as Amazon Prime and Google Play.

“The Watchers,” adapted from the novel by A.M. Shine, tracks the eerie journey of 28-year-old Mina as she navigates the Western Irish countryside. After her car fails, Mina finds herself trekking through a dense forest as night approaches. An encounter with a frantic woman leads her to take refuge in a concrete bunker, where she meets three other strangers in similarly dire circumstances. As darkness falls, they discover themselves observed through a glass wall by monstrous entities emerging from the forest, turning them into unwilling exhibits in a terrifying spectacle. The story unfolds as Mina and her companions grapple with the harrowing reality of their situation, unaware of what these enigmatic Watchers intend for them.
